Setting Sail Towards Langkawi as the Trophies Beacons

As the days are getting closer to the start of the 14th Royal Langkawi International Regatta 2016, the excitement is mounting.

This time around, teams will compete for the Prime Minister's Challenge Trophy for the Racing Class Yachts, the Commodore's Challenge Cup for participants in the club registered cruisers, the LADA-IRC Challenge Trophy for the IRC 1 Class, the Langkawi Sports Trophy for participants in the Sports Boat Class and the Malaysian Multihull Challenge Cup for the multihull category.

All eyes are on the Tunku Abdullah Sportsman Award that will be presented to the best team for its competitiveness, fair racing and comradeship both on water and on land. This award is in memory of the late founding Chairman and the First Commodore of the Royal Langkawi Yacht Club- Almarhum Tunku Tan Sri Abdullah Tuanku Abdul Rahman.

This event has continued to receive the support of the Ministry of Youth and Sports Malaysia, Tourism Malaysia and the Langkawi Development Authority LADA.

The Royal Langkawi International Regatta is sanctioned  by the Sailing World, formerly known as ISAF and the Malaysian Sailing Association MSA and is part of the Asian racing circuit.

All Set for the 14th Edition of the Royal Langkawi International Regatta 2016

The organizers of the 14th Royal Langkawi International Regatta (RLIR) 2016 are all set to welcome their regular favourites as well as a number of newcomers who have registered to take part from 11-16 January 2016.

Since the launch of the registration, the 14th edition of the Royal Langkawi International Regatta  has received more that 20 entries comprising of new entries, regulars and as well as a returning entrant returning to the waters of Langkawi after a long hiatus from the regatta.

The Royal Langkawi Yacht Club (RLYC) Executive Director, Wicky Sundram said that it is such an honor that the regatta favourites keep coming back and is able to attract new entries year after year. The Royal Langkawi International Regatta keeps gaining more popularity among some of the best sailors in the world and he believes that the newly built marina and clubhouse facilities will serve to enhance the yachtees's experience on the island even more.
